I've had Offworld Trading Company for some time now but only recently got around to trying it. After playing through the tutorials and one of the scripted scenarios I figured I'd give the single player mode a try... only to discover all the options greyed out with a nice tooltip popup reading "Requires Purchase of Base Game"... which is confusing since I purchased the base game through Steam as part of a bundle with several bits of DLC.

I checked in the DLC tab to make sure everything including the 'Core Game Upgrade' was enabled. I tried toggling those to no effect. I tried using different versions of Proton (currently 6.8-3) to no effect. I also tried reinstalling... also to no effect.

I even thought perhaps the game was having difficulty finding the game files since I'm running Steam on Linux (and god knows issues with pathname resolution are the bane of every programmer since the dawn of time), so I renamed the install directory to OffworldTradingCompany (i.e. sans spaces) and manually changed the appmanifest to point to that... still no joy.

Any ideas?

P.S. Stardock's applauncher is hot garbage and 99% of the time fails to render properly, forcing me to guess the location of the button to launch the game. The changelogs say there's a commandline option to bypass it, but it doesn't appear to work. ISN'T THIS FUN???

EDIT: I managed to resolve the applauncher issue by appending PROTON_NOD3D_11=1 so it now correctly renders the launch window properly.

UPDATE: So, some progress....

1. Inserting "PROTON_NOD3D_11=1 %command%" resolved the issue of the Stardock Launcher not rendering properly... at least initially.

2. After conferring with Blues over at Mohawk Games, we found the culprit: For reasons unknown, Steam was unable to connect and so it confirm I had a registered copy. Joy. I figured it might be a bug in Proton, and after noticing some stability issues I rebooted and switched to Proton Experimental. SUCCESS. It works! However, the bug in the Stardock Launcher is back, and setting "PROTON_NOD3D11_1 %command%" doesn't help. That, however, is a minor issue, so I'm willing to overlook it.

Hope this saves fellow penguinistas some headaches.

The launcher issue sounds like a bug in proton especially as the app launcher doesn't even use Direct3D or DirectX. Purely a Win32 GDI app.

It also works correctly on the OS it was designed for and I don't think anyone has ever reported it being black when using Windows.
